Dr. David Appleton,
Dr. Appleton is a principal partner who co-founded Genesis Psychology Group, INC. He is a senior professional staff member for more than ten licensed psychologists within the group. As a licensed clinical psychologist and an expert in forensic psychology, he has earned national respect for his comprehensive, in-depth analysis of complex cases, specifically personal and industrial injury cases from California to Florida.
Dr. Appleton has gained an unparalleled reputation for his articulate advocacy, not for the applicant or defense but for the clinical realities of the cases before him. He has earned it by drawing on a distinguished 25-year career of clinical, forensic, trauma response, and media experiences.
In 1990, Dr. Appleton was awarded the PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University after earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees in psychology from California State University, Northridge. During his doctorate training, Dr. Appleton interned at Olive View-UCLA Medical Center, providing assessment and treatment of diverse cases like personality disorders, substance abuse, and severe chronic mental illness, including schizophrenia.
Dr. Appleton’s forensic experiences date back to the late 1980s. For nearly a decade, he worked as an industrial injury expert at the Barrington Psychiatric Center in Los Angeles. During this time, he presented for four years to attorneys at the California Bar Association, covering a range of mental health topics.
He naturally transitioned into his current role as a principal partner in Genesis Psychology Group after a successful 10-year tenure at Framer Psychology Group, where he emerged as the top producer in their multi-faceted medical-legal practice. Throughout his professional journey, Dr. Appleton has consistently exceeded the expectations of his peers in both the quantity and quality of his work product, always maintaining a meticulous focus on uncovering the truth in each case.
Part of his career as a licensed clinical psychologist is serving as a trauma counselor or media personality in response to community crises. He responded only to such high-profile events, some of which include the Los Angeles (Rodney King) riots of April and May 1992 and the Landers/Big Bear Earthquake a month later. He also served in the North Hollywood Bank of America robbery and shootout in February 1997 and the Los Angeles Jewish Community Center shooting in August 1999.
As a renowned trauma expert and licensed psychologist, Dr. Appleton had a pivotal role on the national stage when he was invited to serve as a trauma counselor for first responders during the terror attacks in New York City on September 11, 2001. Since then, he has continued to serve as a trauma counselor in several other tragic events, such as the 2015 San Bernardino Regional Center mass shooting, the 2017 Route 66 Las Vegas mass shooting, and the 2018 Borderline Bar and Grill mass shooting. Additionally, he has worked closely with the survivors of the July 2019 Gilroy Garlic Festival mass shooting, providing invaluable support and guidance.
Dr. Appleton’s tireless energy, deep compassion for his patients, and practical clinical skills in his clinical work have served him exceptionally well in the objective arena of forensic examinations.
Dr. William P. Boehm,
Dr. Boehm, a principal, co-founder, and senior professional staff member of Genesis Psychology Group, INC., brings over 30 years of diverse experience in teaching, evaluation, clinical work, and forensics to this thriving practice of over ten licensed psychologists. He has made significant contributions to the field of employment law through his published work and demonstrates expertise in civil and employment litigation.
He earned a Ph.D. in counseling psychology from the University of Southern California in 1988. Dr. Boehm was a psychometrist, teaching assistant, premedical academic advisor, and lecturer during his time at the university.
Dr. Boehm’s passion for employment psychology was ignited during his tenure as a police psychologist with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. In this role, he conducted on-site trauma debriefings, offered invaluable guidance to the sheriff’s administration on managing the psychological demands of police work, and utilized the insights gleaned from his doctoral dissertation to train peer counselors.
For two years in the late 1980s, Dr. Boehm served adults, children, and families as a staff and senior psychologist in the Riverside County Department of Mental Health. He also ran the inpatient adolescent unit, where he honed his assessment skills as a licensed clinical psychologist.
Dr. Boehm’s early medical-legal development was as a forensic psychologist at the Barrington Psychiatric Center, where he was a leading, top-quality producer. In 1994, he was an invited chapter contributor to the first edition of Mental and Emotional Injuries in Employment Litigation (edited by James McDonald and Francine Kulick), which elevated his professional stature above his peers.
Throughout his decades of experience as a licensed psychologist, Dr. Boehm frequently responded to industrial psychological traumas, from bank robberies and explosions to electrical fatalities and amputations.
For nearly 10 years, Dr. Boehm was a core member of the professional staff at Framer Psychology Group as a full-time evaluating psychologist and consultant to businesses. While there, he maintained an ambitious and independent adult treatment practice. The natural next step was to partner with Dr. Appleton to create Genesis Psychology Group, which combined expertise, staff, and resources to broaden services and professional products for our customers.
His easy-going and calm demeanor allows Dr. Boehm to establish rapport quickly and easily with the clients he evaluates and treats. It is a style–a gift–that consistently earns him the highest marks from clients, adjusters, and attorneys.
